Click on the icon to print out the book
If you do not have a printer you can simply write the beginning of the sentence on a piece of paper for your child. Then your child can do their best to sound out the word of the food item they have chosen to write. Remember that it does not need to be spelled correctly. The child uses the strategies of clapping the syllables, saying the word and writing the sounds they hear. I recommend working on the book at your child's pace. :)

Hide and Read
This is a simple and fun way to get your child to begin reading!
Materials -
1. Paper cups
2. Marker
How to play:
1. Using the marker write down one syllable on one individual cup. (ma, sa, ta, la, ami, fa, me, se, te, le, je, mi, si, ti, li, ici, mo, so, lo, to, mu, su, tu, lu, une). You can chose to adapt how many you write based on how many paper cups you have.
2. This game plays with two players. One player hides an object under one of the cups. Then the other player must ask: "Est-ce que c'est sous..." and then read a syllable written on the paper cup they think the object is under. If they are right they get to take a turn hiding the object and have the other person guess. If they are incorrect keep playing until you find the object.
